S.S.E.S. Nuclear Power Plant Public

Public Notification
Siren Activation - If the sirens located in
the 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) sound for three to
five minutes (non-stop), that means a situation
has occurred at the S.S.E.S. Nuclear Power plant that requires peoples attention. Tune to a local radio
or TV station for more details.
Route Alert Teams - Teams consisting of public safety
department members or emergency management volunteer's
will knock on doors or use bull horns and public
address systems to inform residents to tune into a
local radio or TV station for information concerning
a development at the power plant. Route alert teams will be dispatched
immediately after siren activations.
Public Information
The Columbia County Emergency Management Agency will
make every effort to keep residents informed of developments
during an emergency at the S.S.E.S. Nuclear Power
Plant. This will be done in cooperation with local
radio and TV stations via the Emergency Alert System
(E.A.S.). A tone will sound on your radio or TV followed
by a message.
Residents should stay tuned to the radio or TV for
information updates. Do not tie up 911 telephone lines
with questions that can be answered by listening to
the radio or TV. However if an emergency exists requiring an immediate response by police, fire or ambulance by
all means immediately call 911.
Whenever an Alert, Site Area Emergency or General
Emergency is declared at the S.S.E.S. Nuclear Power
Plant, the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency
will activate their public inquiry hotline. The public inquiry hotline phone number is 389-5738.
