Nuclear Power Plant Emergency Tips
The Columbia County Radiological Emergency Operations
Plan establishes response procedures for those living,
working or conducting business in the "Emergency Planning
Zone" (EPZ) which includes the ten mile radius of the
Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) located in
Salem Township, Luzerne County.
The are over 19,000 people from Columbia County in
the EPZ. The EPZ affects eight Columbia County Municipalities
including all of Berwick Borough, Briar Creek Borough, Briar Creek Township and a portion of Beaver Township, North Centre Township,
South Centre Township, Fishing Creek Township an Mifflin
Township.
Basic emergency information is available in the blue
pages of the local telephone books as well as the links
on this page. The Columbia County Radiological Emergency
Response Plan is available for your review at the public
library's in the county. The eight Columbia County Municipalities
located in the EPZ also have emergency response plans.
Inquiries pertaining to specific information in these
plans can be made at your Township Building. School
Districts located in the EPZ have written procedures
that parents should be familiar with.
